JOB SUMMARY:
The Transportation Dispatch Manager reports directly to the Sr. Director of Transportation and serves as the second in command in the event of the Sr. Director’s absence. This position has oversight of all tactical activities related to outbound deliveries, equipment availability and maintenance, and oversight of pre-established driver schedules to include bid package in consultation with the Sr. Director. Direct reports to this position include an Administrative Manager and Dispatch Supervisors. The Dispatch manager will work collaboratively with the Inbound Logistics Manager to insure that scheduling is compatible with maximizing desired inbound revenue.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the Sr. Director of Transportation concerning effective bid package development that will best meet customer needs as well as driver income needs.
- Review daily schedule plan with Dispatch Managers and Inbound Manager to insure on time deliveries and maximum efficiency in terms of equipment utilization
- Review investigations and corrective action plans in response to delivery problems or driver performance issues
- Provide prompt communication/response to other Departments concerning Transportation related issues that may impact their activities. This responsibility requires professionalism and joint problem solving capability.
- Partner with the fleet safety and equipment manager to insure that the fleet is available for timely dispatch needs and to insure that drivers are in compliance with DOT rules and regulations. The Dispatch manager and Safety manager will jointly review safety violations and recommend appropriate actions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma (some college level coursework related to business or transportation would be desired)
- At least 5 years of experience managing a Transportation department with 75 or more drivers.
- Demonstrate general knowledge of the Transportation industry and DOT regulations
- Proficient in the use of MS-Office PC applications
- Working knowledge of on-board computer systems and familiarity with electronic routing systems.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and in writing
- Have a background free of criminal convictions
